A veteran Dallas police officer seen on videotape shoving an Occupy Dallas protester off some planters outside a building was suspended for a day.
Police Chief David Brown on Thursday announced the suspension of Officer Jimmy Hollis, who was working an off-duty security job during the Nov. 5 incident. Brown also barred Hollis from off-duty jobs for 60 days.
An internal affairs investigation concluded that Officer Hollis used unnecessary force when he pushed a protestor from a planter on November 5, 2011.
Hollis has declined comment on the penalty over the incident with Stephen Benavides, who was among eight protesters arrested for allegedly becoming aggressive with police. Benavides has been charged with assaulting a public servant. He's denied the allegations.
Brown has asked the city attorney's office to dismiss all use of sidewalk-related citations issued during the Nov. 5 protest.
