DISD trustees conducted annual performance review

Whether it was a pair of grading scandals at two South Dallas high schools or the projected $94 million budget shortfall, no one would say this has been a good year for the Dallas Independent School District.
But DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa will keep his job. Trustees spend more than three hours in an annual review of Hinojosa's performance.
His contract runs through 2012. He is still scheduled to receive a raise each year.
Critics had called on Hinojosa to resign.
On Wednesday, Ron Price, a school board trustee, declared that he has no confidence in Hinajosa's administration, but dropped a call for a no-confidence vote by other trustees.
"We cannot afford any more blunders," Price said. "We cannot afford any more embarrassing moments for the employees of the DISD or the City of Dallas."
Hinajosa has repeatedly found strong support from other board members such as President Jack Lowe. Lowe stood by Hinojosa's side even when there were angry protesters at his door a few weeks ago.
"I support him," he told a protester. "He should keep [his job.]"
The Alliance AFT Teachers' Union said earlier Thursday if they were handing out report cards, they would give the superintendent a C. The group gave strong opposition to Hinajosa when hundreds of teachers lost their jobs in October.
"It's like when you have multiple subjects on a report card," said Maureen Peters, of the Alliance AFT. "He definitely failed when it came to finances, but it's not true when it comes to the scholastic area. In the scholastic area there has been progress made."
