DISD Chief of Staff Resigns

The chief of staff Dallas Independent School District superintendent Mike Miles has resigned in anticipation of being named in a federal indictment.

Jerome Oberlton becomes the fourth high-level administrator to leave during Miles' year-long tenure.

Miles released the following statement Tuesday morning:

“I was profoundly shocked and disappointed when I was told of the allegations. When I learned of the seriousness of this issue yesterday, I immediately requested Mr. Oberlton's resignation. I was shocked because the district conducted a thorough background and credit check including interviews with his most recent employer. My disappointment is accompanied by anger because Jerome did not inform us about his involvement in this investigation until yesterday.

I have asked the board of trustees to approve an audit of all of his work during his tenure with Dallas ISD. Despite this latest departure from my cabinet, I remain firm in my commitment to a strong leadership team.”

Oberlton joined the Dallas district in January.
