DEA Seizes $581,960 From Dallas Pharmacy

Details of investigation not revealed

Federal drug agents seized $581,960 in an investigation involving the El Rancho Pharmacy in North Dallas, according to court documents filed last week.

The Drug Enforcement Administration also seized a 2007 Lexus belonging to the pharmacy's owner, Eyad Mahrouq, the documents say.

The El Rancho Pharmacy was located inside the El Rancho Supermercado at 14211 Coit Road in North Dallas.

Alex Zarrag, director of purchasing for El Rancho Supermercado, said the pharmacy owners leased space inside the supermarket and are not associated with the grocery chain with the same name.

DEA agents raided the pharmacy late last year and it remains closed, Zarrag said.

"They closed the place down," he said. "They did take (out) a lot of boxes."

No details of the investigation were revealed and other records in the case apparently remain sealed.

"It's an ongoing investigation," said DEA spokeswoman Terri Wyatt. She declined further comment.

A phone number for the pharmacy is now disconnected.

Mahrouq could not be reached for comment.

His attorney, Cynthia Orr of San Antonio, did not immediately return a phone call on Monday.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade granted a request by prosecutors for more time to try to have the money and car forfeited to the government.

The new deadline is May 23.
