DART ‘Say Something' App Downloads Increasing

Free app allows users to discreetly report crimes in progress

About three weeks into the launch of a new crime reporting mobile app, Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials are pleased with its reach.

More than 1,700 people have downloaded the DART Say Something app, which allows people to discreetly report crimes in progress to DART police.

The free app has already been used to report crimes, though DART officials did not confirm whether it has yet to result in an arrest.

The app allows users to either directly call DART police or use the camera on their phone to surreptitiously take and send a photograph or a short video to officers. The app deactivates the camera's flash function and shutter sound to better enable the user to remain undetected.
