Deadly Crash Closes NB I-35E in Dallas

One person was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 35E in Dallas before dawn Sunday, officers told NBC 5.[[367960451,R]]

According to police, the driver of a Ford pickup truck stopped in the middle of the Interstate for an unknown reason. The driver of a Honda Ridgeland truck slammed into the back of the Ford at about 4:30 a.m., causing the truck to burst into flames.

The driver of the Ford truck was dead when officers arrived. The driver of the Honda truck was taken to Methodist Hospital in Dallas for a broken left arm and other injuries that are not life threatening.

A witness said the Ford truck's headlights were not illuminated, but the taillights were.

The identity of the deceased driver was not immediately released.

All northbound lanes of I-35E at Ledbetter Drive were closed following the crash. Northbound traffic was diverted around the scene and onto the frontage road.  Officers did not say when the interstate would reopen.
