Cowboys RB Morris Making the Most of Opportunity

If you talk to new Cowboys running back Alfred Morris about his early success in the 2016 preseason, he’s likely to use one phrase more than once.

“If you get opportunities, you have to make the most of it,” Morris consistently said Friday night outside his locker at AT&T Stadium.

It is exactly what the former Redskins running back is doing. Morris had an impressive second preseason game with his new team, rushing for 85 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. He also had another fantastic touchdown run called back because of a penalty. But the success the veteran is having now in the preseason was far from certain just a few weeks ago.

“Compared to OTAs and training camp, I feel like it’s a night and day difference,” Morris said. “I feel like I caught on (to the playbook) a lot better the second time around. And when you can play without thinking, you can play a lot faster.”

“Alfred’s playing great, because he can see the hole and he hits it,” Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said. “I’d like to say it’s a good scheme for him, but he’s pretty good at everything.”

Morris played four seasons with the Redskins before signing with the Cowboys in the offseason. One of the reasons he chose Dallas? The Cowboys' powerful offensive line, which he admitted is living up to its reputation around the league.

“As a runner, you drool over things like that,” Morris said. “Hearing about it, then witnessing it, and now running behind it, it’s awesome. I’m very thankful and I need to make the most of every opportunity.”

Morris and the Cowboys will get a serious test against a strong defense in their third and most important preseason game. The Cowboys will travel to Seattle for a Thursday, August 25 matchup with the Seahawks.
