Convicted Killer in $7 Holdup Set to Die Wednesday

Convicted killer Gayland Bradford is headed to the Texas death chamber for the robbery-slaying of a Dallas grocery store security guard almost 23 years ago.

The 42-year-old Bradford already was on parole for a robbery conviction when he was arrested for gunning down 29-year-old Brian Williams at Angelo's Food Store in December 1988.

The U.S. Supreme Court last week refused to look at an appeal the justices rejected earlier this year and Bradford's lawyer says all appeals now have been exhausted. The Wednesday evening lethal injection will be the fourth this year and first of four set for Texas this month.

The slaying and $7 robbery -- on Williams' second day on the job -- was recorded on a security camera and attorneys said the tape was key to Bradford's conviction and death sentence.
