Convicted Bank Robber Gets 15 Years Behind Bars

A convicted serial bank robber in Texas has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a summer heist that led to his arrest after an Interstate 35 chase.

A federal judge in Waco on Tuesday afternoon sentenced 42-year-old Michael Harrison Mathews of Cedar Hill.

Prosecutors said Mathews since 2005 was responsible for a total of nine bank robberies in Waco, Austin, Houston and the Dallas area.

Mathews last month pleaded guilty to bank robbery over a July 3 holdup in Hillsboro. Texas troopers arrested Mathews following a 25-mile vehicle chase and recovered about $730 in stolen cash.
