Police are looking for the vandals who desecrated a Confederate soldier's headstone at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Van Alstyne police said on July 22, a cemetery caretaker discovered a Nazi swastika had been drawn over the Confederate flag engraved in the headstone and called to report the vandalism.
Police said it appeared to be the work of someone armed with a marker. The caretaker told police the vandalism may have taken place sometime the previous weekend.
The headstone was cleaned and the swastika removed according to the Van Alstyne Leader.
Police are still looking for the person responsible and have stepped up patrols in the area. Vandalism is considered a felony criminal mischief offense.
