Commuters Line Up as A-Train Opens

Train Connects Denton to Dallas

Denton County commuters left the headache of rush hour traffic behind Monday morning as they lined up to ride the A-Train.

The 21-mile passenger train connects Downtown Denton to Carrollton. There, riders can transfer to DART's green-line, which can travels all the way to Downtown Dallas.

"This is just going to make people's lives so much more pleasant and comfortable and convenient," said Euline Brock, former Denton mayor.

The train, which was 10 years in the making, will run approximately every 20 minutes during rush hour.

In between Denton and Carrollton, there are five stops: two in Denton, three in Lewisville.

Total travel time from Denton to Carrollton is approximately 37 minutes. Once on the DART train, the ride from Carrollton to Downtown Dallas should last about 33 minutes.

Denton County Transportation Authority spokesman Tom Lebeau said it's all about connecting North Texas.

"Trying to move people around DFW Metroplex is going to be the key to the future of North Texas," Lebeau said.

"Coming up with different ways and mobility solutions is a great achievement no matter what we do."

According to the A-Train website, a one-way ticket is $3. However, commuters will have to buy a new ticket when transferring to the DART train.
