Community Food Bank Needs More Turkeys for Families in Need

The Community Food Bank in Fort Worth continued to give out free turkeys on Tuesday.

They had already given out more than 2,000 turkeys on Monday for families in need. The last day to get a turkey is Wednesday.

"It means a lot because right now I don't have anything for my family, but as you see they help out with everything, so I am really blessed to come down here and get a turkey," said Fort Worth resident Nichelle Wooten.

Along with turkeys, the food bank also was giving away complete Thanksgiving meal as well.

In September and October families were allowed to preregister for a turkey.

Those at the food bank say there are many more families who are just showing up for help.

"We had enough turkeys for yesterday, but we are not sure if we will have enough turkeys today," said Community Food Bank executive director Karen Harris.

They have a little over 800 turkeys to give away on Tuesday, but say they still need more than 1,000 to meet the demand.

Harris says they are asking the community for any monetary donations or a donation of a turkey.

"Yesterday we had two young ladies who were talking to their mother and said they wanted to help, so they brought us 30 turkeys yesterday," said Harris.

Last year, they gave out 2,400 turkeys. They are hoping to give out even more this year.

"Thank you and God bless you," said Wooten. "It means a lot to me and my family for y'all to help us with this food."

If you did not preregister they are asking you to come by the food pantry on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
