Collin County Break-Ins Continue

A serial burglar may be targeting homes in Central Plano.

According to police, there have been at least 14 break-ins reported in about one month this fall.

They can’t immediately say if all the burglaries are related, but they follow a similar pattern.

The crime description also parallels other break-ins NBC5 has reported, happening in Murphy and Frisco.

“It’s definitely concerning,” said Dikran Tosbath, who says follows burglary reports on a neighborhood crime watch page.

“They’re literally a mile, half a mile away, [and then] something happened right in the neighborhood. It’s getting closer,” he said.

The method follows a simple pattern.

The crimes happen between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., always when the homeowner is gone.

The burglar breaks glass on a back door or window and gains entry, usually taking only jewelry.

The most disturbing part of the crime is that police believe the criminals may be watching their victims before they strike, waiting for a person or family to leave.

“Anybody watching the house, watching me, my wife, my kids – that concerns me,” said Steven McKimmey, who also lives in a neighborhood that’s been targeted.

Police say they may be looking for a white van or SUV in connection with these crimes.

They encourage anyone who sees a suspicious vehicle to immediately call it in.
