Some young women in Tarrant County got a big boost as they get ready for their first year of college.
Girls Inc. of Tarrant County hosted its fifth annual college shower Thursday night, with companies and individuals showering 75 girls with baskets full of dorm supplies from bedding to mini-refrigerators.
Chair Kendria Taylor said her committee of 27 pulled in $60,000 in donated products and supplies for the high school graduates. Lhoist North America also surprised the girls with free laptops for each.
And, the night got even bigger with the announcement of $50,000 in scholarships. Five of the 2016 high school graduates were also surprised with $10,000 scholarships.
Girls Inc. of Tarrant County partners with Castleberry, Dunbar, Eastern Hills Northside and Trimble Tech high schools and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy.
