The U.S. Coast Guard says it has help saved a shrimping boat that was taking on water near the Texas coast.
The Coast Guard says it received a distress call Tuesday afternoon from the 68-foot shrimping vessel named the Huachinango. The boat from Brownsville was filling with water about 37 miles offshore of Baffin Bay.
The three-person crew was using pumps to clear flooding from the engine compartment when authorities arrived. They had trouble keeping pumps powered as the engine room filled.
Crews from a patrol boat and a rescue helicopter delivered more pumps to the shrimpers. The additional equipment allowed the crew to get the flooding under control.
The Coast Guard reports the boat was on its way back to port Tuesday night.
