Coast Guard Halts Search for Woman Who Fell from Cruise Ship

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended a search in the Gulf of Mexico for an Arlington woman missing from a cruise ship that sailed out of Galveston.

A Coast Guard statement said search and rescue coordinators suspended the search for 33-year-old Samantha Broberg that spanned 4,300 square miles after 20 hours at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

The Coast Guard said earlier that its district command center in New Orleans was contacted by the master of the cruise ship Carnival Liberty.

Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement that people traveling with Broberg reported her missing Friday. Ship surveillance video showed a woman falling overboard about 2 a.m. Friday.

Carnival said she can be seen sitting on a deck railing then falling back into the water.
