Suspect Sought in FW Elementary School Arson, Vandalism

Fort Worth Fire investigators asked for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of setting fire to an elementary school classroom early Monday.

Authorities said the apparent younger adult male set fire to books and other supplies in the middle of a classroom at Meadowcreek Elementary School in the Crowley Independent School District.

That fire caused significant damage to the classroom and several surrounding classrooms, according to the fire department.

The school's sprinkler system extinguished the flames, alerting firefighters to the problem at about 3:50 a.m. Monday.

Fort Worth Fire released an image from inside that classroom which showed damage to the ceiling tiles, the floor and graffiti on a cabinet door. The department blocked out part of that graffiti, as it contained profane language.

There is no estimate on the damages as of yet, but CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

In a 28-second surveillance clip you can see the suspect walk down a main hallway with the hood of his sweatshirt up and the neckline pulled up to obscure part of his face. The man also appears to be using his sleeves in order not to leave fingerprints behind.

Anyone with information as to the identification of the suspect was asked to call Fort Worth Fire's arson unit or CrimeStoppers.
