Cleanup Begins After Weekend Storms

More than 24 hours after severe storms rolled through North Texas some remain in the dark.

According to ONCOR at 10 p.m. Sunday, 6,167 people remained without power down from around 90,000 during the height of storm-related outages, 5,474 in Tarrant County alone.

Residents off Forest Park Avenue and Park Central in Fort Worth were just a few of those without power for a second night in-a-row after a large tree pulled down power lines in the area.

In Trophy Club, high winds knocked the steeple from atop the Fellowship United Methodist Church Saturday evening. Senior Pastor Edlen Cowley told NBC 5 the steeple is designed to sway with the wind, but it was no match for the storm.

In addition, the youth activity center below suffered some water damage after the steeple was ripped from the roof.

Power was restored by Sunday morning services, but some youth activities were canceled.

“This is a part where people drive and park cars right here,” Cowley told NBC 5, “So, fortunately no one was here and no one was hurt – if there is a ‘Thank God’ moment in here, there’s a lot of ‘Thank God’ moments in here but that would be one that we’re especially thankful for, that no one got hurt.”

Insurance is expected to replace the fiberglass fixture.
