City Shuts Down Motel That Transmitted Porn Signals

Updated 3:59 PM CDT, Tue, Jan 6, 2009

Those rabbit ears won't work after February 17.

The city shut down Monday a south Dallas motel that a nearby school fought for decades to close.

City officials said an order to close the Colonial House Motel near Interstate 45 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard had been issued.

Parents at nearby St. Phillip's School said pornography from the motel's television signal could be picked up for a time on handheld televisions at their children's school.

Parents using the devices while waiting to pick up their children said the signal was bleeding across public airwaves. The signal was turned off on Dec. 18, the school said.

Administrators said it was the latest in a string of problems with the crime-ridden Colonial House Motel near Interstate 45 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Dallas police made 60 prostitution arrests and dozens of drug arrests at the motel within three years.
