City Pool Closings Draw Heat, Skin

Bikini-clad protesters picket City Hall

Insert the word “bikini” into about any public protest and you’re sure to gain a fair amount of news coverage and exposure.

A group protesting the closings of city swimming pools at public parks did just that today during the One-Hour Bikini Beach Party Protest at Dallas City Hall.

It’s all part of The Dallas Fair Budget Campaign in response to municipal cuts in services to offset another huge budget shortfall facing the city.

PETA, of course, ratchets up the skimpy-protest quotient by sending in naked or topless chicks, so this one’s tame by comparison. Still, it’s bound to have attracted a fair number of gawkers who likely had no idea what the group was protesting — yeah, the gawkers looked at and read the signs — and was anything really accomplished?

Besides, these things tend to attract protesters you really don’t want to see in bikinis.
