Church Gives Away Gas for Easter

New Beginnings Community Fellowship Church giving $20 worth of gas to 200 cars

A Cedar Hill church is giving away gas in the spirit of the Easter season.

New Beginnings Community Fellowship Church will give away free gas at the Murphy station in front of the Walmart in Cedar Hill on Saturday morning.

Much of the money was raised through donations from the church's 350 members.

"There is no catch, no gimmick," said the Rev. Rodney Frazier, the church's pastor.

There is a $20 limit for every car, and the giveaway is limited to the first 200 cars.

"We're doing it just to show love," Frazier said.

Love is not something the church was met with two years ago, when signs announcing its arrival along Highway 67 in Cedar Hill were defaced with racial slurs.

"If anything, we think it was just a bad prank," Frazier said. "The city has been gracious to us. We've partnered with them, and there is nothing but love."

Drivers in Cedar Hill seemed to love the idea of getting something for nothing.

"I think that's just awesome," driver Leslie Moore as she filled up her minivan. "It's something people can use. I may have to bring my other car tomorrow."

The gas giveaway will begin at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Frazier recommended drivers get there early if they want to be among the first 200 cars in line.
