Christmas Day Blaze Destroys Two Homes

A Christmas morning fire quickly gutted two east Dallas homes in the 3700 block of Casa del Sol Lane.

"Right now we're just cleaning up our valuables and what we have left," said Jessica Huffman, of New Orleans, in town visiting her mother whose home was destroyed.  "This is a very horrific nightmare."

The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. on Christmas Day, with the flames spreading from one home to the other, according to witnesses.

A woman and her two young sons live in the home where the fire started, according to Sandra Dye, the victim's aunt, but they were not home.

Next door, seven members of the Huffman family were just waking up to begin their Christmas celebration when they saw smoke pouring through the living room window.

All seven people, including two women with disabilities and an 8-year-old boy, escaped unharmed.

"We could see no more Christmas tree, no more Christmas," Huffman told NBC 5 about what family members saw on their way out.  "All we could do is just go and stand outside and watch our house burn down."

Several victims and relatives told NBC 5 they believe the fire was intentionally set, but neither Dallas Fire-Rescue nor the Dallas Police Department will confirm that information.
