Child, 4, Dead After Being Pulled From Family's New Pool

A 4-year-old boy died Sunday after he was found floating in a North Richland Hills pool Saturday, police say.

Three children at the home were outside playing in a new pool while the mother was inside the house, according to police. She went outside to check on the group when she found her son floating, unresponsive in the water, police said.

Police said paramedics arrived at the home on the 8300 block of Johns Way within three minutes and immediately began CPR. They continued to perform CPR as they rushed the critically injured boy to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

The boy — later identified as Paxton Wages — died at 4:57 p.m. Sunday. His was the second child drowning death in the county within three days. A 3-year-old from Haltom City died Friday after being found in a pool Wednesday.

Separately, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said a 14-year-old boy's body was pulled from a lake Sunday in Southeast Texas after he didn't resurface.

"This is a reminder, really, to everybody about how quickly tragedy can happen," Keith Bauman, police investigator, told NBC 5. "Do not leave children at the pool."

More than 60 children have drowned so far in 2015, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Last year, there were 73.
