Child, 3, Killed Chasing Ball into Fort Worth Street

A 3-year-old child was struck and killed Monday after chasing a ball into a residential street, police say.

Fort Worth police said the child followed the ball into the street along the 2600 block of Refugio Avenue and was hit by a passing car.

The child, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office as Josiah Marquez, was transported to Cook Children's Medical Center where he later died.

The incident took place near the end of the street, a cul-de-sac, and police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.

The driver of the car stopped after the collision and was cited for driving without a license. Police have not said if the driver is expected to face any other charges.
