Chase Suspect Speaks Out From Jail

On Thursday afternoon, the man accused of a carjacking, causing a wild chase and then crashing into several cars spoke out from behind bars.

In his first interview after the arrest, Artrai Alexander said he doesn't take responsibility for the carjacking, and said he was scared of police. That's why he said he led them on a chase through northeast Dallas.

Below is part of the interview with NBC 5's Ray Villeda:

Villeda:" So you see police, and you say you're spooked and that's why you're driving faster and faster?"
Alexander: "Yeah yeah."
Villeda: "What do you say to all those ppl though, that you affected on the way to get away from police?
Alexander: "I apologize to them."

He expressed sympathy for the 13-year-old child who was in the back of the van he hit. The boy's name is T.J., but Alexander kept referring to him as "J.T."

Alexander: "J.T., the little boy, I was concerned about him, after all that took place."
Villeda: "What do you say to innocent family that you hit?"
Alexander: "I apologize to them for this whole incident, I apologize and hope J.T. be OK and the other people that were injured as well."

He told NBC 5 he was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the chase.
