Charity Helps Families Celebrate the Holidays

Toys, food and clothing handed out to thousands of families

Christmas just got a little better for thousands of North Texas children. Many of them would not have had a present under the tree this year, but thanks to a local organization now they will.

Saturday, the S.M. Wright foundation celebrated “Christmas At The Park” in Fair Park. Each year the foundation gives away toys, clothing and food to thousands of families. Last year they had enough for 20,000 families, this year; they were prepared to take care of 40,000.

"To be able to come up here and get something like this -- it really makes Christmas, it makes the season what it is,” said Justin Sanford, father of two .

Many of these families said they’d fallen on hard times this year, so this charity is saving their Christmas.

"We’ve never had to go through something like this, we've always been the one to donate and give," said Candi Salcido.

After her husband was injured in a car accident, Candi said times have been tough. But that wasn't the case when the foundation gave her family not one, but two bicycles.

"A lot of people wouldn't know what to do if this organization wasn't here and it's really helped my children this year," said Sanford. "I’m really grateful for that."
