Drivers having to detour up to 50 miles around a Central Texas bridge destroyed during last May's flooding will soon have a new span.
Hays County officials on Thursday announced the replacement Fischer Store Road Bridge near Wimberley will be dedicated Feb. 26 -- three months earlier than planned.
The bridge gave way during 2015 Memorial Day weekend storms that claimed more than two dozen lives in Central Texas.
Construction on a replacement Fischer Store Road Bridge began last November and was not scheduled for completion until this May.
Commissioner Will Conley says loss of the bridge cut off an essential part of the county's transportation network.
Residents needing to travel to or from Wimberley, Dripping Springs or Austin had a one-way detour ranging from 40 to 50 miles.
