Census Numbers Show Collin County Still Growing Strong

Frisco, McKinney among fastest growing cities in nation

Numbers released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau show Collin County cities are once again leading North Texas and the nation in population growth.

According to the bureau’s population estimates, Frisco and McKinney both rank in the Top 15 of fastest-growing ‘large’ cities in the country.

During the 2010 census, Frisco was named the fastest growing city of its size.

"We're used to the fast growth,” said Maher Maso, mayor of Frisco. “We've been dealing with it for many years, but over the past three months, something overnight has happened where the growth has exploded. We may hit 2,500 new homes this year alone. Last year we had 1,600.”

The numbers also show that Prosper has seen unprecedented growth since the last census.

The town’s population has increased by up to 25 percent.

“I don’t expect those numbers to go down, only to go up,” said Maso.

Texas contained eight of the Top 15 fastest-growing cities and towns in the nation in 2012.
