When officers arrived at the scene, multiple witnesses said the victim, identified as 48-year-old Michele Albanese of Dallas, had been looking at her phone when she began to cross the street and was hit by a car traveling north on 4500 Travis Street.

Both witnesses said Albanese neglected to look for oncoming traffic before stepping into the intersection.

Albanese, a trainer at the Park Cities Personal Training gym, had been on her lunch break at the time she was hit, according to The Dallas Morning News. Albanese was taken to Baylor Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to Dallas Fire Rescue.

Albanese’s mother, Marion Harper, said Saturday that she wasn’t sure who Albanese was talking to on the phone at the time of the crash. She used the phone frequently to stay in touch with clients, her mother told The Dallas Morning News.

“She was very dependent on it because of the nature of her business,” Harper said.

No charges have been made at this time.
