Celina ISD Warns of Norovirus Outbreak

The Celina Independent School District has informed parents about an outbreak of norovirus at Celina Elementary School.

The district said a high number of students are being sent home, and more than 13 teachers have also been infected.

The plan is to use the upcoming President's Day holiday to sanitize the school. School will be in session Friday, but district leaders are worried about a shortage of teachers, because so many are sick or at home taking care of their own sick children.

Norovirus is a nasty stomach bug but usually runs its course in two or three days.

Students are encouraged to stay home if they're sick, and wait at least 24 hours of being symptom-free before they return to school.
