Case Narrowing in Melissa Murder Investigation

Police have yet to identify a suspect in the case

Police in Melissa are narrowing down leads into who killed a single mother in Melissa.

The victim’s name has not been released, but police say her 17-year-old son discovered her body on Monday afternoon when he was coming home from school.

Neighbors said the woman was in her 30s and had moved-in earlier in the summer from Frisco.

Chris Barnes describes her as a good mother to her son, and said the neighborhood is praying for him during this difficult time.

"With her being a single mom, our hearts are going out to the son,” Barnes said. “The whole time this situation is going, that's all we thought about, the son.”

Police are treating the case as a homicide because the body showed signs of trauma. However, they add that they believe it was not a random attack and that the victim likely knew her attacker.

On Wednesday, they did not release further information about a possible person of interest.

Barnes adds that while the event seems isolated, the neighborhood is still uneasy.

"I do hope they have this person caught,” he said.

This is the first murder in Melissa in recent memory.

The Texas Rangers are also involved in the continuing investigation.
