Police: Recovered Body Belongs To Teen

Shania Gray was last seen Thursday afternoon at Hebron High School.

Late Saturday, police in Carrollton said they believed a body found near the Trinity River belongs to missing 16-year-old Shania Gray. She was last seen Thursday afternoon at Hebron High School.

On Saturday afternoon, Carrollton Police first notified the media that Gray was missing. She recently transferred from Mesquite to Hebron High School along Plano Parkway in Carrollton.

Earlier in the day, a bicyclist notified police to a body floating in the Trinity River off Valley View north of I-635 LBJ Freeway.  By 6:40 p.m., the Dallas County Sheriff's Dept. told NBC 5 that Carrollton Police is taking over the investigation of that discovery.

Carrollton Police never issued an Amber Alert for Shania Gray's disappearance.

Official body identification will come from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office. It will also explain her cause of death.

At this time, Gray's family is not commenting publicly.
