CareFlite Chopper Makes Hard Landing

Crew suffers injuries in emergency landing

A pilot and two medics were injured after the medical transport helicopter they were in crashed in rural Central Texas.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials say all three were conscious and talking after the crash.

The helicopter was traveling Sunday morning to pick up a patient when the pilot tried to divert to a local airport because of limited visibility due to bad weather.

The helicopter crashed about three miles south of Eastland, located 56 miles east of Abilene.

Injured were: 58-year-old pilot Scott Wallace of Fort Worth; 53-year-old medic Teresa Campbell of Granbury; and 34-year-old Rhett Drahen of Frisco.

All were taken to an Eastland hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The helicopter is operated by Dallas-area based CareFlite. Federal officials are investigating the crash.
