Four children were struck by a car Friday afternoon near the Dallas Zoo when the children stepped into the street, police said.

Four children ages 5, 6, 8 and 14 ran across the street at Morrell and Woodbine avenues according to the Dallas Police Department.

The driver stopped and waited for police officers to arrive.

Police said all of the children were transported to Children's Hospital in Dallas. Two of the children suffered minor injuries and the 5-year-old is in critical condition but expected to survive.

Police tell NBCDFW they do not expect to file any charges against the driver.
