Car Strikes 7th Grader Entering School Bus: Officials

A Greenville Middle School student was struck by a vehicle while trying to enter a school bus Wednesday morning, district officials said.

Greenville Independent School District spokeswoman Sydney Phillips said a car passed the bus and struck the seventh grader near the Garden Park Apartments on U.S. 69 at about 6:35 a.m.

The bus was stopped, its stop sign was fully extended and all its lights were flashing at the time, Phillips said.

An ambulance transported the child to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that officials said were not life threatening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and family during this difficult time," Phillips stated in an email.
