Car Stolen With 6-Year-Old Boy Inside

It was a happy ending for a Dallas mother who left her car running with her 6-year-old son inside when it was stolen. Luckily police officers were in the area when she called 9-1-1.

The woman told Dallas police she ran inside the Chevron at West Camp Wisdom Road and South R.L. Thornton Freeway just before 1 a.m. and left her son in the car while it was running. She says that's when a man jumped in the car and drove away.

Dallas police said officer drove in the direction the woman said the car went and about a mile from the service station they found the boy unhurt.

While and officer stayed with the child, police said other officers continued the chase until they caught up with the black Mitsubishi Galant and arrested Gregory Carter.

Carter, 19, faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and abandoning/endangering a child.

Police have not yet said what charges if any the mother will face for living her child unattended in a running vehicle.
