Car Dangles Off Bridge, Drops Engine onto Highway

Three people are in the hospital with serious injuries after police say a driver crashed into a highway barrier. The wreck left the car dangling nearly 20 feet above the southbound lanes of US 75 Central Expressway.

The collision with the guardrail dislodged the car's engine, which fell onto the highway below.

It happened Sunday around 1:40 a.m.

Witnesses at area businesses ran towards the car. Kiki Williams, a waitress at a nearby diner, was one of them.

"It was like a loud pop!" said Williams, describing the sound of the crash.

When she ran over she saw the male driver and two female passengers were unconscious inside the car.

Emergency crews worked quickly to get the three out.

"The second lady they pulled out of vehicle the one laying down, she was trying to cry but couldn't, she couldn't breathe you could hear her, trying to cry," said Williams.

In the meantime, bystanders held the car down, keeping it from falling.

Officers said the three suffered serious injuries. Dallas Police told NBC 5 the driver could face intoxication assault charges.
