Canton's Old Mill Marketplace Vows to Rebuild After Massive Fire

Store owners at Canton's popular Old Mill Marketplace promise to rebuild after this weekend's devastating fire.

Huge flames ripped through 20 buildings on The Mountain, leaving behind only charred remains in the middle of the old west town.

"We thank God that we had all the rain that we've had recently because it was wet, all the trees were wet still and the boards were wet, if it hadn't it would have all gone," said Stephen Cash, Old Mill Marketplace general manager.

Store owners promise to rebuild, erecting a sign Monday with the words "Mountain Strong, and thanks local firefighters who stopped the flames from spreading even farther."

"If it hadn't been for those firefighters, you wouldn't be seeing any of this mountain right now," said property owner Susan Matassa.

The Old Mill Marketplace promises to open the remaining buildings for the next First Monday Weekend, right after Thanksgiving.

"It's going to be okay, it's going to be okay," said March. "It's just sad, it's sad."

No one was hurt, and investigators are still searching for the cause of Saturday's fire.
