Camp Grady Spruce Evacuated at PK Lake

The YMCA's Camp Grady Spruce at Possum Kingdom Lake is being evacuated.

Officials with the camp said the evacuation is only being done out of an abundance of caution, and because local officials are mandating an evacuation of the peninsula, and not because the campground is under an immediate threat from the 101 Ranch wildfire.

The campgrounds are currently hosting about 90 students from the Dublin Independent School District.  On Tuesday, students from the Northwest Independent School District evacuated the camp after the first reports of brush fires on the eastern shores of Possum Kingdom Lake.

The Dublin students are expected to leave the campgrounds before 6 p.m.  Once the students have left, Grady Spruce staff will be evacuated.

NBC 5 talked with officials at both the Dublin and Northwest ISDs Wednesday morning about their decisions to either stay at the camp or to leave.  Those conversations can be heard in the video above.

The campground is in a peninsula on the lake's southern side
