Busy Weekend Ahead for Yard Work and Gardeners

Garden centers expect to be busy this weekend, as the warm winter and early spring are both good for business.

"It's almost been like a continuation of fall without any winter at all," said Barry Johnson, owner of Blooming Colors of Grapevine.

"We've seen every weekend so far through February really increase," Johnson added. "We expect this one to just be crazy."

Many people plan to put plants in the ground before the rain in next week's forecast arrives.

"Absolutely," said Ellen Polowski, of Southlake. "I mean, it's just so warm, so nice. I mean it is the time to start planting."

"The flowers are starting to bloom and you can actually see what you're getting, and so it will be busy," said Vicki Elrod, of Grapevine.

Many lawn care crews didn't even get the normal winter break, as the grass turned greener much earlier than usual.

"By this time of the year we're just starting, and we started three weeks ago," said David Cardoza, owner of David's Landscaping.

"We've been extremely busy for the past two weeks now," Cardoza added. "With this rain coming up, it's only going to get a lot more busier."

And with so many people expected to be shopping for plants, Blooming Colors stocked up for the weekend.

"We got in over eight trucks yesterday and then a couple this morning just to fill up, just to have everything. So if you ask for it, we have it," Johnson said.
