Officers said a burglary alarm sounded at Belk Department Store in the 5800 block of Long Prairie Road at about 4:40 Friday morning.

A Flower Mound police officer was checking the back of the store when the alarm went off and immediately drove to the front of the store, where he was confronted by four people.

He ordered all of them to stop. One person, Lamar Benton, followed the officer's orders, while the other three drove away in a red Ford Mustang and a silver 2015 Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Kia, Jessica Cuevas, crashed nearby at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 2499 and West Windsor Drive and was arrested.

Both Benton and Cuevas were charged with burglary.

Officers recovered a significant amount of merchandise from the Kia. Police say it appears many of the items came from other retail stores around the Metroplex. They also found a sledgehammer, which they believe was used to break the glass door at Belk.

The two individuals who fled in the Mustang are still on the run.

Investigators told NBC 5 they believe this crime is connected with several recent break-ins at North Texas department stores.
