Brownsville: Rights of Shot Boy Weren't Violated

The city of Brownsville says the constitutional rights of a teenager shot and killed by police at a middle school last year were not violated.

The Brownsville Herald reports the denial comes in the response to a lawsuit filed by the parents of Jaime Gonzalez Jr.

According to the lawsuit, officers did not try to calm the 15-year-old boy, came in shooting and that no one, not even Gonzalez, was in danger.

The teenager was killed in January 2012. Police were responding to a call that he had threatened another student with a gun. It turned out to be a pellet gun.

Attorneys for the city say they believe its officers have immunity from the suit as the shooting was justified.
