Bridal Party Escapes Party Bus Fire in Irving

A Burleson bride-to-be wants her bridal party’s belongings back and a refund after the party bus they were in caught on fire in between stops.

It happened Saturday night when the group went from the bride’s Burleson home to a club on Northwest Highway in Dallas. Then, on their way to the second stop, the bus pulled over on the President George Bush Turnpike in Irving.

“The whole thing went up in flames. It was unreal,” said Lacey Baker, a friend who helped organize the trip. “I couldn’t believe it. I mean, we were all standing up there thinking it was going to be a little fire.”

The group rented a party bus with MBEG limo out of Dallas.

“It’s a bachelorette party. You’re supposed to have a blast, go celebrate marriage. It was [the] furthest thing from that. [It] was kind of a disaster,” said Baker.

The company said another bus came to pick them all up within a half hour. Still, their belongings, including car keys, bags and shoes, were left on the bus.

“My girlfriend's keys, her BMW keys, which are not cheap to replace, we have a cooler, a jacket, glasses, our makeup,” said bride-to-be Kristi McWilliams.

MBEG’s owner, Sheldon O’Neal, told NBC 5 he is checking out the bus and plans to retrieve as much as he can from the burnt out bus. Anything lost, the company says, it will replace.

“I just want our money back. That’s all we wanted. We want our things replaced and our money back,” said McWilliams.

MBEG said it plans to have the women’s belongings within the next 48 hours.
