Boy Injured in Fire that Killed Grandmother Dies

A 5-year-old boy has died after sustaining injuries in a South Texas apartment fire earlier this week in which his grandmother died.

Sixty-four-year-old Alicia C. Anguiano was pronounced dead at the scene of the apartment fire Wednesday morning in San Benito. Her grandson, Angelo Martinez, was hospitalized in critical condition.

The boy's mother, Amanda Anguiano, told the Valley Morning Star in Harlingen that he was taken off life support Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Det. Rogelio Banda says the fire was isolated to the apartment where the victims were found. Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Alicia Anguiano worked as a secretary in the San Benito school district's transportation department. She had worked for the district since 1983.
