Boy, 12, Shot in Leg Near Downtown Dallas

A 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being caught in the crossfire of a gunfight, police said.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Roseland Townhomes in the 3500 block of Munger Avenue near Downtown Dallas.

"It's very heartbreaking," said neighbor Chemisha Hunter. "Just to be outside playing and then to be shot."

Neighbors told NBC 5 that a fight between several men led to shots being fired. The boy was playing nearby and was shot in the leg, police said.

Hunter said she saw the gunman enter a house before returning outside to fire his gun in the fight.

"Accidents happen but the guy, to me, should've stayed in the house to leave [the fight] alone. but he came outside and retaliated."

The boy was taken to Children's Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening. Police said they were questioning five people, with one of them believed to be the gunman.
