Boxer Benjamin Flores has died five days after he was hospitalized following his North American Boxing Federation bout against Al Seeger.

NABF attorney and bout supervisor Bob Lenhardt says the 25-year-old Flores died Tuesday at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Lenhardt said referee Laurence Cole stopped the fight and awarded the victory to Seeger in the eighth round Thursday night at the Hilton Anatole hotel in Dallas.

Lenhardt said the Houston fighter was helped to his stool before lying down. Lenhardt said doctors rushed to his side and Flores appeared unconscious when he was taken away on a stretcher.

The fight was for the vacant NABF super bantamweight title. Lenhardt said Flores was 19-3 and weighed in at 122 pounds. Seeger is from Savannah, Ga.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation offered condolences and said that it is reviewing the fight to verify that all procedures were followed.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of Benjamin Flores. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Benjamin was a courageous fighter who was loved and respected by everyone. His death is a tragic loss and he will be greatly missed in the boxing community," a TDLR spokeswoman said in a statement released Tuesday.

The Real Estate Council has set up a memorial fund for the Flores family:
