Suspicious Bag Found Near School in Deep Ellum

A suspicious bag has been cleared following a bomb threat Tuesday afternoon near the Uplift Preparatory Academy in Deep Ellum.

Emergency crews were dispatched just before 3 p.m. to the school in the 2600 block of Elm Street after a teacher saw an "unknown male" leave a black bag on the sidewalk in front of the school.

Elm Street was closed between North Good Latimer Expressway and North Malcolm X Boulevard as a precaution while Dallas bomb technicians scanned the bag for explosives and checked its contents.

Students were evacuated from the school and supervised by teachers while police investigated the bag.

The bag itself contained nothing considered to be dangerous or explosive, officials said.

Further information has not yet been released.
