Blue Ridge ISD Honors Alumna Killed in Softball Bus Crash

The Blue Ridge Independent School District is dedicating a renovated softball field in Brooke Deckard’s honor.

Deckard, an academic and athletic standout during her time with the district, died last September when her softball team's bus from North Central Texas College was struck by a semi.

“We’re wanting to make it a celebration of Brooke, more than anything else,” said Blue Ridge ISD Superintendent Todd Lintzen. “She was definitely a leader.”

The facility will be called Brooke Deckard Memorial Stadium.

The stadium bears a plaque with her name and likeness, and, according to Lintzen, was renovated with a significant amount of volunteer hours and the help of generous community donations.

It is the only facility in the district to ever be named in honor of a person.
