Bishop Lynch Students Mourn Death of Classmates

A prayer vigil was held at Bishop Lynch High School Thursday afternoon to remember two students killed in an accident Wednesday afternoon.

Alessandra Grace Alexandrou, 17, and her boyfriend, Daniel Thomas Carey, 18, were killed in a crash on Interstate 45 just north of Huntsville on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Alexandrou was driving north on I-45 when she veered off the road and into the southbound lanes, according to the DPS accident report. Her 2006 Ford Taurus partially overturned and was hit by an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Alexandrou and Carey were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver suffered cuts and was taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital for treatment and was listed in good condition.

Carey graduated from Bishop Lynch last year and was planning to attend Baylor University in the fall.

Carey's family posted on his Facebook page:

"Thank you for all the words of support. The rosary will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dallas, TX on Sunday, August 7 from 3pm to 4pm followed by a reception. The funeral will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Monday, August 8 at 10am. Thank you for keeping Dan and us in your prayers."
