Ah, fall is in the air.
The leaves are changing color — well, they would if we lived somewhere else — a nip is in the air with temperatures plunging to the mid-90s, and football reigns supreme, except for the Cowboys, where it just rains on fans’ parade.
The most telling sign of all, though, might be Big Tex’s erection — [snicker] really, you’re not surprised, are you? — inside Fair Park on the State Fairgrounds just days in advance of the opening of the State Fair of Texas.
The big boy stands tall today as workers set him in place and put the polishing touches on the fair, which opens Friday and concludes Oct. 17.
His boots have been polished, and his Dickies shirt and jeans are pressed. His trademark hat is cocked back just so and the booming voice is getting warmed up and ready to meet the crowds.
